Mingalarbar …

welcome to Myanmar – our next station until the end of march.

Yangon - Sule

After a very comfortable trip from Kuching with a stop-over in Kuala Lumpur we landed in Yangon. What a change! Already at the airport we could feel that this would be a different thing. From the hot and very humid environment in Borneo we now switch to the dry and very hot (in Yangon around 36 degrees) climate. The easy going traffic in Kuching becomes an italian-style driving by hooting and passing the road is a constant test of courage. The people speak rarely English, are incredibly friendly with a smile in their face and as a family of five we are an eye catcher (especially Rino).

Another thing that we noticed: the men often wear traditional skirts (longyi) . So after breakfast we headed to the Bogyoke Market, which is a huge handicraft market, and among other stuff got us some skirts. From there we strolled through Yangon and ended in the Maha Bandoola Garden in front of the Sule pagoda. As it was Sunday plenty of people and families were around and the boys got to check the playground before we visited the impressive Sule pagoda.

After that we spent a few hours at the pool of the Chatrium hotel with a friend and ended up having dinner at the nightmarket on 19th street in Chinatown. Lots of new tastes, smells and colors.

We have been in Myanmar for only 24h but we believe we are going to love it!
